Doctoral Students Collaborators
Emily LaPorte
Emily LaPorte is interested in the impact of parent emotion regulation on child attachment and the development of related topics such as purpose, character, and intellectual virtue. She is the current Lab Manager but will transition to teach at the Founders Classical Academy in Louisville TX.
Marlon Goering
Marlon Goering is a doctoral student at the University of Alabama-Birmingham. His research interests include moral development, developmental problems in adolescence, particularly in how the development of empathy and prosocial reasoning is influenced by parental and other social factors. Marlon is also interested in the long term effects of pubertal timing and tempo. We are grateful for his expert collaboration on a number of MAP Lab research projects.
Kenneth McClure
Ken works in the Statistical Learning and Measurement (SLAM) Lab at Notre Dame. He is interested in text mining, latent variable modeling, and applications of machine learning in clinical psychology. We are grateful for his expert collaboration on a number of MAP Lab projects.

Doctoral Alumni
Pat Hill
Dr. Hill took up a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Illinois after graduating from Notre Dame, working with Professor Brent Roberts. He was named an assistant professor in the Department of Psychology at Carleton University (Canada), before moving on to his current position in Psychology and Brain Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis. Pat teaches and writes in the area of health and personality psychology and various topics in life-span development, including the development of purpose.
Paul Stey
Dr. Stey’s research concerned how children and adults arrive at judgments about the moral qualities of actions, and to what degree these judgments are influenced by an understanding of causality and intentionality. He was also interested in the relationship between cognitive science and philosophy and how the two fields can be mutually informative. Paul defended his dissertation in Spring 2014 and he took a research position with the Environmental Protection Agency. Paul is a Biomedical Data Scientist and Director of Scientific Computing and Data Science at Brown University.
Kathyrn Kelley
Dr. Kelley's research focuses on various topics associated with spiritual and religious development, identity, struggles, and formation in schools and family. Katie defended her dissertation in Spring 2023. She taught courses in developmental psychology in the Department of Psychology at Hope College in the Spring term of 2023, and she joins the Department of Psychology at Taylor University in a tenure track position beginning the Fall term 2023.
